BUNCRANA BUSINESS HELPS IN LITTLE KERI’S SEARCH FOR SIGHT

first_imgBuncrana-based Hegarty’s Home Interiors have launched a campaign to ensure local schoolgirl Keri Kelly gets a life-changing operation which may lead her to seeing for the very first time. The campaign to raise €30,000 is being backed by donegaldaily.com!Two people moved by her story are Stephen and Matthew Gleeson of Hegarty’s Home Interiors in Buncrana who decided to encourage other people to get involved by pledging the first of what they hope are 60 €500 donations. “We both have healthy children and are very grateful for that blessing.  Keri’s story is one of hope and if there is any hope of giving her sight and as she said ‘to see her mammy’s face’ then surely we have to contribute,” said Stephen.“We would like to see the business community of Donegal, those that can afford to help, to donate anything up to €500 for Keri’s life-changing trip to China. It would just take 60 of us to make this dream a reality especially as Chinese surgeons accepted to take on her case which is not always assured.”Keri has ONH (optic nerve hypoplasia) which means that her optic nerves never grew and she is registered blind. Her parents were told that there was nothing that could be done to help but when they heard about stem cell treatment in China that may give Keri a very real chance of sight, they jumped at it. But before they even think of making the trip they must raise €30,000.Hegarty’s Home Interiors in Buncrana will leave collection boxes for members of the public who want to make a small donation in their store. They will also encourage other business people and suppliers to get involved in what they have described as a “campaign for a life-changing opportunity”.For more information on Keri Kelly’s campaign log onto her Facebook group “Keri’s Search for Sight”BUNCRANA BUSINESS HELPS IN LITTLE KERI’S SEARCH FOR SIGHT was last modified: June 14th, 2011 by gregShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:buncranahegarty’s interiorsKeri Kellylast_img read more

New smart jacket promises to get you past velvet rope lines

first_imgVelvet ropes and bouncers wielding clipboards adorned with lists that only the elite of the elite are privileged enough to be on are common associations with high-brow nightlife. This is especially true in major metropolitan cities like New York. Skipping the line is a privilege held by the few, but there is a new jacket being made that promises to give its wearer almost-magical access to these exclusive events. The Rochambeau Bright BMBR smart jacket is not only a fashion-forward jacket, but a skeleton key to exclusive events that are hard to get into for all but the most well-connected. The jacket itself is adorned with digital tags that enable you access to exclusive events including a personal tour at New Release gallery, tasting menu for two at Toro, and line-skipping access to some of New York’s most exclusive nightclubs.Only 15 of these jackets are expected to be produced in December. The small run, brand appeal, and access they give comes at a price. They’re expected to be available exclusively from The New Stand at a price of $630.The promotional video Rochambeau made promoting the upcoming jacket hints at a world where the wearer can walk into a store and walk out with high-end merchandise after tapping their phone to their sleeve, revealing their secret pass. Need help getting past the velvet ropes? All you need is a Bright BMBR smart jacket and a smartphone and you’re there.Lex Kendall, COO and co-founder of The New Stand, said to Forbes: “The future of [the] IoT is awe-inspiring and fashion is one of the relatable early expressions of how the digital lives of inanimate objects can truly help both consumer and producers alike… The New Stand aims to provide customers with the essentials needed to make their days easier, and with new discoveries to make them better. The Bright BMBR is an interesting mix of these two concepts.”Indeed, we are looking at world that is infinitely more connected. Smart clothing is becoming an increasingly popular avenue for wearable technology. It looks natural, disappears rather than disrupts, and can serve a variety of useful applications.Good technology is functional, great technology is invisible. ZP official alleges threat by minister, opts to retire

first_imgThe Additional CEO of Akola Zila Parishad has opted for voluntary retirement citing “threats and pressure” from the Minister of State for Home Ranjeet Patil, who is also the guardian minister of the district.“On February 12, the guardian minister had organised a ‘Janata Darbar’ in Akola. During this programme, the guardian minister spoke to me in unparliamentary and abusive language publicly. He also pressurised me to accept some tenders. I told him that accepting tenders, without following proper procedure, will be illegal but he got angry on me,” Subhash Pawar has said in his letter to Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Water Resources Department of Maharashtra government.Mr. Pawar has also alleged in his letter that the minister also threatened him during the programme.“The guardian minister threatened that he would see how to implicate me in some scandals since he is the minister of state for home. He also asked me as to why do I work as a government servant. I never experienced such treatment from anyone during my 25 years long service. My tenure as a government servant is spotless. This entire episode has increased my mental stress which is why I don’t intend to continue in the service anymore,” Mr. Pawar has said in his letter seeking voluntary retirement. Mr. Patil did not respond to calls from The Hindu.last_img read more

Warriors know this is something special, uncertainty ahead

first_imgPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hosting MOST READ The Los Angeles Lakers of 2000-02 — led by Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal — are the last team to capture three straight titles.Golden State advanced without Durant, the reigning two-time finals MVP, and Cousins. Both were sidelined with injuries for the entire Western Conference finals. The finished off Portland without Andre Iguodala, another finals MVP who sat out Game 4 with an injury. While the Bucks and Raptors are slugging it out in the East, the Warriors are rehabbing.“I hope it doesn’t go unnoticed or underrated. Five straight finals hasn’t been done since the 60s, since Bill Russell’s Celtics,” fifth-year Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “Hasn’t been done for a reason: It’s really, really difficult. I just can’t say enough about the competitive desire about the group of players that we have here and the culture that they have built together, playing together regardless of injury.”Each Warriors run has been unique. When they won in 2015 it was the first title for the franchise in 40 years.LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers derailed them in 2016, but the Warriors bounced back in 2017 with a dominant 16-1 record during the postseason.Last year, Golden State joined Russell’s Celtics, Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls and trio of Lakers teams — including George Mikan and company in the 1950s, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the ’80s, and Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant nearly 20 years ago — as the only franchises in NBA history to capture three championships in four years.“When I was here the first time, they rebuilt and retooled,” said Andrew Bogut, a member of the 2015 title team before rejoining the Warriors in March.“They didn’t just sit on their hands thinking it was going to last forever. They freed up cap space, you have to give (general manager) Bob Myers, (owner) Joe Lacob and the coaching staff a lot of credit. There are a lot of teams that win a championship and kind of reward the whole roster, then they end up two-three years down the track and end up in a bit of a hole. Whereas this is a great run for a franchise that will end up as one of the all-time greats.”The Warriors enjoy playing together and with so many selfless stars and a deep bench they are rarely out of any game. That doesn’t mean it has been easy, especially with the constant free agency chatter this season.Durant is an impending free agent and the basketball world continues to speculate on his next move. Thompson’s future with the Warriors is unclear as well, while Green is signed through next season.“We know that these runs don’t last forever, and obviously there are so many questions and things that could possibly happen with this team this summer,” Green said. “So want to try to take advantage of this opportunity and make the most of it, and deal with the things that come after whenever those things arrive, but right now we’re focused on the task at hand and try to do something that hasn’t been done in a long time, or many times.”The Warriors are aware of the dynasty talk, but aren’t labeling themselves. They have consistently said their focus is the task of raising another banner in the final season at Oracle Arena before the franchise moves into Chase Center in San Francisco to begin 2019-20.“I don’t think in those terms. It’s just every opportunity we have to play, these are big moments, big games,” Curry said, “and the context of what this five-year run has been and all that stuff doesn’t really dominate my mind when we’re out there competing.” PDEA chief backs Robredo in revealing ‘discoveries’ on drug war Sports Related Videospowered by AdSparcRead Next LATEST STORIES Two-day strike in Bicol fails to cripple transport Catholic schools seek legislated pay hike, too The Golden State Warriors players pose with the Western Conference Championship trophy after Game 4 of the NBA basketball playoffs Western Conference finals against the Portland Trail Blazers Monday, May 20, 2019, in Portland, Ore. It’s pretty special.”The Warriors are the first team to reach five straight finals since the Celtics advanced to 10 in a row from 1957-1966.Another championship would cement this run of titles among the best ever.ADVERTISEMENT Don’t miss out on the latest news and information.
