EU demand for Commercial Vehicles up 124 in 2015

Demand for commercial vehicles rose in 2015, according to the latest registration figures from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). Registrations of new CVs were up 12.4% on 2014, making 2015 the third consecutive year of CV market growth.The year finished strongly, with December registrations rising by 14.8%. All five major markets performed better in 2015, with the strongest growth registered in Spain (+36.4%), Italy (+13.2%) and the UK (+16.7%).  Growth reached double digits across all segments, with the biggest increase in Heavy Commercial Vehicles (+19.4%).Light commercial vehicles recorded their 28th consecutive month of growth, as December registrations rose 13.5% compared to the previous year, with an 11.6% increase for the full year compared to 2014.Heavy commercial vehicles (over 16 tonnes) also saw a significant increase in year-on-year registrations, largely driven by the strong UK market, which was up 97.1% compared with December 2014. UK HCV registrations reached 35,783 in 2015.Medium-heavy commercial vehicles (3.5 to 16 tonnes) were up 23.7% for December’s year-on-year result, also driven by a very strong UK market.  Full-year growth for the segment was 16.2%.Meanwhile, medium-heavy buses and coaches recorded solid growth of 11.1% in December and 17.8% across the whole year. The greatest growth rate was in Romania, which experienced a 101% increase in registrations – though from a relatively small base.
