McBroom Honored By AVCA As A Member of the 400-Win Club

first_imgThe American Volleyball Coaches Association honored Drake University head coach Darrin McBroom during its annual convention as one of the organization’s newest members of the 400-win club.McBroom, who recently completed his sixth season as the Bulldogs’ head coach, has amassed 411 total wins at the NCAA Division I and junior college ranks.Before taking the reins of the Drake program, McBroom had a 322-58 record in eight seasons in the junior college ranks and ranked among the 10 winningest junior college coaches. In four seasons at Iowa Western, McBroom had a 177-25 record and led the program to four-straight national tournament appearances.At Drake, he has won 89 games in six seasons and has guided the program to its first-back-to-back 20 win seasons in eight years. In 2018, the Bulldogs made their first postseason appearance since 1995 with a berth in the National Invitational Volleyball Tournament. Before that appearance, the team made history with the program’s first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament win since 1998 and became the first No. 6 seed in the tournament’s history to advance to the semifinals.McBroom’s tenure has also seen the program make a resurgence in the classroom as the team has won the AVCA Team Academic Award in four of the last five years. Four of the program’s six total AVCA Team Academic Awards have come under McBroom’s watch and in the fall of 2018, the team recorded its second highest fall semester GPA at 3.57. Print Friendly Versionlast_img
