Kotoko win but Duncan’s still unhappy with finishing

first_imgKotoko coach David Duncan has bemoaned his side’s lack of finishing as his side labored to beat Bechem United 2-1 on Sunday. The defending champions took the lead through Dauda Mohammed with a powerful header but the visitors equalized through Aminu Mohammed before Ivorian Ahmed Toure converted a penalty five minutes from time to fetch all three points for the Porcupines. And Duncan was critical of his side’s finishing after the game.“We made the game difficult for ourselves. Having gone up by a goal, we squandered quite a number of chances and didn’t put the game to bed to make the second half a walk through the park,” Duncan told reporters.“In situations like this, just like the maxim goals, if you don’t take your chances it comes back to hurt you and that was what Bechem did in the course of the game.”“Through our anxiety to go ahead again we were leaving spaces at the back and I thought Bechem could have punished us from a lot of the counter attacks that they initiated but we showed some good character and team fighting spirit.” The Kotoko coach however did not downplay the quality of the opposition on the day and gave the Bechem side full credit for their endeavour. “We anticipated a very tough game without a doubt. You should expect any team that comes up against Kotoko doubles up their preparations so this for me was no different.” “If the indicators from the league log are anything to go by, you would also agree with me that Bechem United aren’t doing badly.”“Some of the places we faltered, they went there and got the result. So for them to have put up such performance against Asante Kotoko is ample testimony it is not an easy side but I thought that we made the game very difficult for ourselves.”Kotoko move to eighth by virtue of this win and will aim to improve on that position when they face Medeama in Tarkwa on matchday 21.  –Follow Kweku on Twitter: @nana_odumlast_img
