Anita Peter principal of the St. Luke’s Primary School.A special ceremony was held at the Arawak House of Culture this morning to thank and recognize fourteen prinicpals across the island for their significant contribution to our children’s education. Rev. Carlvin Greenaway bestowed God’s blessings upon the ceremony as well as the principals while the students of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School.The fourteen principals were awarded;Mrs. Celia Nicholas, Dominica Community High School;Ms. Josephine Dublin, Convent High School,Mrs. Shirley Samuel, Pierre Charles Secondary School,Mrs. Andra Christian, St. Martin Secondary School,Mrs. Magdalene Honore, Vieille Case Primary School,Mrs. Edlyn Fabien, Temple Seventh Day Adventist School,Mr. Teddy Wallace, Clifton Primary School,Sis. Anita Peter, St. Luke’s Primary School,Mrs. Charlene White-Christian, Grandbay Primary School,Mrs. Octavia Alfred, Castle Bruce Secondary School,Mrs. Alcie Laronde, Atkinson Primary School,Ms. Lovell Moreau, St. Martin’s Primary School,Mrs. Adelina Detouche, Convent Primary School, andMrs. Josette Matthew, St. Mary’s Primary School.The Featured Speaker Dr. Irvin Pascal highlighted the need for African culture to be added to our schools curriculum so as to teach our children about our descendants and where they came from. He used a quotation from notable Ghanaian writer Mr. Ayi Kweh Armah who said, “The denial of our past is the very antithesis of a good education” to impress upon the Ministry of Education the need to add African culture to the curriculum.The two Outstanding Principals of Excellence Primary School awardees are Sis. Anita Peter and Mrs. Shirley Samuel of the Pierre Charles Secondary School. They both received a cheque of $5000.00, a plaque and a bouquet.There were several performances from various schools to pay tribute to the principals; the Pioneer Prepartory School performed an instrumental of the song “Under the Sea”, the Portsmouth Secondary School exhibited their talent through dance as well as the Pierre Charles Secondary School.The Grammar School choir sang “We wish you sun”, Ms.Joseph of the Seventh Day Adventist School sang “How great thou art” and Ms. Jasmine Laville sang “keep the dream alive.” The Convent High School delighted the audience with their corale speech entitled “If I ruled the world.”Click here for full audio of Convent High School’s corale speech: The Primary and Secondary schools were also awarded for their excellence in several arreas; Education, Sports, Innovation, Agriculture among others.The Primary School awards are as follows;Best School Environment Award, the St. Luke’s Primary School,The Innovation in Education Award went to the St. Luke’s Primary School,The Best in Agriculture award went to the Bense Primary School,Most Outstanding School in Sports, W.S.
