Ramesh Powar replaces Tushar Arothe as coach of Indian women’s cricket team

first_imgFormer India off-spinner Ramesh Powar has been appointed Head Coach of the Indian Women’s Team till the World T20. Powar replaced Tushar Arothe, who stepped down after alleged differences with senior players in the team.Powar, 40, played two Tests and 31 ODIs for India from 2004 to 2007. He was named interim coach after Arothe resigned in July.Last month, Arothe was forced to resign after a few senior players wanted his ouster. BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary, GM (Cricket Operations) Saba Karim and CEO Rahul Johri were also present.There has been adverse reports about his coaching methods from players, selectors and even the team manager,” a senior BCCI official had told news agency PTI on condition of anonymity.PTI had also reported that ODI captain Mithali Raj and Twenty20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur did not have good things to say about Arothe’s coaching methods when the BCCI bigwigs sought their feedback.Powar has now been named head coach and has been handed over full time duties till 30th November, 2018. According to a BCCI press release, Powar’s “term will include the tour to Sri Lanka in September, a bilateral series in West Indies in October followed by the ICC Women’s World T20 in West Indies in November.”last_img read more
