Kirk Ferentz sees that changing soon.Defensive line coach Reese Morgan announced his retirement just ahead of spring practice. Morgan says he made the call to focus on his family, after 19 years on staff in Iowa City.Kevin Bell moved from recruiting coordinator to coach the defensive line. However, the new hire is expected to focus on the same position, and assist Bell there.Kirk Ferentz says that he plans to “get things rolling” on his new assistant coaching hire this week. From HawkCentral:“(The wait) has allowed us some time to think about what we’re looking for, in terms of naming another assistant,” Ferentz said. “I think we’re far enough down the road where we have a good idea of what it is we’re looking for, specifically. We’ll start the process sometime this week and get things rolling.”With Kelvin Bell going from recruiting coordinator to head defensive line coach, that leaves open some recruiting duties that the staff has decided will be spread evenly. Here’s how it’ll work: The new assistant will assist Bell on the defensive line and handle in-season recruiting evaluations on defense. Running backs coach Derrick Foster will handle in-season evaluations on offense. It sounds like that will probably come after the end of spring. The Hawkeyes have two weeks left of the practice period.last_img read more
