Nova Scotia and its tourism industry partners are encouraging Canadians to show their national pride with a vote for Fundy on Canada’s birthday. Vote My Fundy Day will be promoted across the province Friday, July 1 to support the Bay of Fundy’s bid to become one of the official New7Wonders of Nature. Percy Paris, Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism, made the announcement today, June 29, with Darlene Grant Fiander, president of the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia, and Bernard Weber and Jean-Paul de la Fuente of the New7Wonders of Nature Foundation. “Nova Scotia’s tourism industry has shown tremendous support for the Bay of Fundy in the New7Wonders of Nature campaign,” said Mr. Paris. “Operators across the province have been actively promoting the Bay of Fundy, and we thank them for their efforts to raise awareness and encourage voting. They are helping to build Nova Scotia as a world-class destination.” Mr. Weber and Mr. de la Fuente travelled from the foundation’s office in Switzerland, to participate in Canada Day-related celebrations of the Bay of Fundy’s candidacy. The foundation initiated the original New7Wonders of the World campaign, garnered 100 million votes worldwide. “Canadians should be very proud that the Bay of Fundy is one of only 28 global finalists in the New7Wonders of Nature campaign,” said Mr. Weber. “We are recognizing the most spectacular natural wonders in the world, and the world’s highest tides are truly a natural wonder. We are very pleased to be here to help Canada celebrate the Bay of Fundy’s nomination.” Ms. Grant Fiander said a win for Fundy is a win for Nova Scotia. “This designation will put Nova Scotia in the company of some of the most spectacular places in the world. It will provide Nova Scotia with international recognition and result in significant economic activity for the region,” she said. Tourism partners are helping to promote the Vote My Fundy campaign in a variety of ways. The Vote My Fundy video will be played at the start of every performance, and during each intermission, of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. The masters of ceremonies will encourage audiences to vote. “The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo is the world’s best show and it takes place in the best country in the world,” said chairman of the Tattoo board, Lt.-Col. Alan Abraham. “We are asking our audience members to ensure that everyone knows this great province is also home to one of the world’s natural wonders. “We not only urge our audience members to vote for Fundy, but we are asking them to invite their friends and family to do so as well.” Mr. Paris encouraged all of Nova Scotia’s tourism partners to take a moment on Canada Day to vote. Promotion for the Bay of Fundy includes a national voting day in Ottawa this fall, and a social media campaign. Canadians can vote for the Bay of Fundy by texting FUNDY to 77077 for just 25 cents per vote, or free online at votemyfundy.com. The official New7Wonders of Nature will be announced Nov. 11.
